Homesick?! ..maybe just a little :)

Wednesday was a pretty quiet day after another good night at Duplex. The roomies and I were lazy all day and quiet. I think we were all a little homesick...

Later Wednesday night the roomies went out for tickets for Thursday, for the Mexican Independence Day party. I had no idea what I was getting into...

Thursday was a good day at school.. Market performance measurements. I'm really learning alot and very much enjoying the class. We were supposed to pick up a few magazines to talk about in class... and I just so happened to stumble upon this LOVELY young man...

I hope HE turns out to be my homework :)

At the end of class on the last page of our notes, I recognized an important quote previously given to me by a VERY close friend, Dylan Cortez.

Albert Einstein AND Dylan are so right...

The schoolweek is officially over, and now it is time to celebrate MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY! I surprised the roomies with homemade guacamole when they got home from school. I think they really liked it :)

It's pretty easy to make:
a few avocados, onions, garlic, tomatoes, lemon juice, salt and pepper and VOILA!

So after the little Mexican surprise, time to PARTY!!
When we arrived at the place, I was very surprised to see so many people! There were drinks and food, and a Mariachi band. It was definitely a fun time. I'm sure it was interesting to see me, a little white girl shouting "VIVA MEXICO!" with a South Louisiana accent waving the Mexican flag. Just picture it. Well, I guess I can show you :)

Corona: A very important part of Mexican culture. So, I think drinking it makes me more "worldly"...

The roomies and Me!

Miss Laura Talonen looking like a "sensual" (pronounced sin-swall in Spanish, meaning SEXY)  Seniorita!

Santiago and me TRYING to dance, haha...

And then I found this Mexican hat. Not really sure how that story goes...
One tequila, Two tequila, Three tequila, FLOOR!

Needless to say, we had a blast!!  After we got home, we were able to skype with Ale's family celebrating back home in Mexico. What a treat!! It was great to see such long lasting family traditions.

Let's just say Friday was a rough morning/afternoon. Good thing I didn't have class. Laura and I slept till noon, at least. Unfortunately, the other roomies had class. Laura and I decided to walk around the neighborhood... and we realized there was a grocery store not far from our apartment. Very useful information after 3 weeks of grocery shopping in La Defense after school...
We stopped and got a Pizza Bread thing called Pizza Royale, and it was only 1.80 euro. It was delicious!

Friday night I decided to go to a party with my friend Romain and some of his French friends. We had a really good time. Tickets were 15 euro for open champagne bar and 4 free drinks after the open bar. Not too shabby, but the champagne bar kicked my butt. The bubbles go straight to your head. Whoops!!

I ended up calling it a night and calling a taxi. 8 euro, not too bad...

Saturday we were supposed to go on a "Midnight in Paris" tour, but the flea market consumed the majority of our day.  We had a blast. All of the girls bought shoes because they were so cheap. I stopped at a little food truck and got a pizza with an egg on it. It was so freakin good. Eggs make EVERYTHING better.
We also invested in a mini hookah...only 5 euro! (For the use of flavored tobacco, which is called shisha, just for the record...)
Plus, it's very decorative :)

Saturday night was VERY interesting...
We came upon some astonishing information... Across the street from our apartment is Palais de Congress, which houses Palais Maillot, one of the best nightclubs in Paris, so we thought. Drake, the rapper, was there 2 weeks ago with P.Diddy. So of course, we are pumped. Having a nice club right across the street means we don't have to wait for a bus to come home when the Metro is closed, we can just walk!!!
It was a friend's birthday, and he made reservations for all of us to go to this club. So, we get all dolled up, LBDs, makeup, heels, the works. We walk across the street to the place and wait in the EXTREMELY LONG line. When we get to the entrance, the owner was standing there in a black fur coat (which looked like velvet to me, which makes it even TACKIER), and he was probably shorter than me. Well, he decided that because we were a large group and some of us were Mexicans, he didn't want us to be in his nightclub. I think there was even a comment like, "No. No Mexicans tonight." HOW HORRIBLE?!?!?!?!  So, we decide to find another place, walking around in the FREEZING cold. (probably not freezing, but REALLY cold)  When everyone else went ahead and left all of us behind, I got pissed, so I went to my old trusty James Joyce pub. But none of my bartenders were working. It was the new guy. And he didn't even know how to make my drink. But it's ok. He will learn soon. After about 5 minutes in the pub (it was a quiet night) I decided to meet up with my friend, Raphael for a drink. We had fun :)

Raphael, on the left, was out with his sister's boyfriend. They were visiting from Versailles.

Sunday morning, after everyone made it back home, we went to visit Versailles. Because we played in the garden for so long, we didn't have time for the chateau. But I'm sure we will go back another day.

My lover: de la Fuente, Papa.

A little bit of hide and seek!

A lovely stroll as a family :)

The flower garden was beautiful, and the roses smelled HEAVENLY!
These are only a few pictures. Check out my facebook for the complete album.

After we got home we cleaned the apartment and I made dinner. Stephen, the bartender from the James Joyce Pub, came over to visit.. At first he was reluctant to eat the spaghetti I cooked. "Oh, I had McDonald's earlier. Wait, you made that from scratch?! No you, didn't" Let's just say he had a healthy helping. AND SECONDS.
It gets better: I made crepes for the first time. Do I have any idea how to make crepes? Not really. Just watched the guys at the crepe shop and improvised. I made nutella and banana crepes. I didn't even get one. I guess they were good, lol.

Monday was school. French civilization. MY FAVORITE. Mr. Lula is HOT. But the content is great too :)  After school the roomies and I went grocery shopping, and we spend so much that we got free delivery. WOO HOO! No dragging it on and off the Metro. THANK GOD! Oh, and I made shrimp and corn bisque. So good, especially now that it's getting cold..

Tuesday was school, again. French class. Not my favorite, but it's growing on me. For homework we had to send a formal email and make the ending of a news article. The subject I chose was "Disappearance after a party on the banks of the Marne River. Divers raked the river and found..."
My story was as follows: The divers raked the river all day Sunday without success. They continued their search Monday, and uncovered an astonishing piece of history. It was the ship from famous pioneer Legendre, and in the ship lied TONS of gold. The divers donated the ship to the local museum, and then the money from the gold was donated to Kristen Legendre, the great granddaughter of said Pioneer Legendre. As a student at ESCE, she financed her semester withs student loans. She used the money to pay off student loans and then donated the rest to charity.
The End.

Good isn't it?? I know, I know.

After French class, Lauma and I went with Laura to help her move into her new apartment. It was sad seeing her leave our couch. But her apartment is ADORABLE, and she has a GREAT view of the Eiffel Tower.

After getting her settled in, we went to an Italian restaurant nearby. We ordered two pizzas. Of course, both with eggs right in the middle. DELICIOUS, of course.

We were all tired, so Lauma and I headed for the Metro to go home. She didn't want to come out, and the roomies were sleeping, despite the fact that Tuesday night is usually Duplex night. So, we're on the Metro, and some of the people I go to school with were on the Metro too. They were heading to Duplex. I quickly changed my mind about going home. It was worth it. I danced with friends all night. It was quite fun.

later, Alligators!

À plus tard!

Kristen
